Welcome to Poor Meadows Dachshunds.
Located in the beautiful Lakes Region of Maine.
Our Dachshunds are our world.
We are committed to breeding for the very best
temperament & disposition possible. All of our
adult Dachshunds are pets, living in our home.
We do not have a separate kennel nor do we
keep our dogs crated. They rule this house. All of
our beloved puppies are whelped in our living
room with Heidi in attendance. No mother is ever
left alone to deliver on her own. The puppies are
spoiled, socialized & well on their way to being
the perfect family pet by the time they leave our
We are lucky enough to spend our Summer's &
Fall at a lovely family campground not far from
home. Any puppies born during this time are
especially spoiled!
We welcome visitor's. We love to show off our
adults as well as any puppies we may have.
Please enjoy your time visiting our website.

My dogs live here, they're here to stay.
You don't like pets?  Be on your way.
They share my home, my food, my space.
This is their home, this is their place.

You will find dog hair on the floor,
They will alert you're at the door.
They may request a little pat,
A simple "NO" will settle that.

It gripes me when I hear you say,
"Just how is it you live this way?
They smell, they shed, they're in the way."
WHO ASKED YOU? Is all I can say.

They love me more than anyone.
My voice is like the rising sun,
They merely have to hear me say,
"C'mon, time to go and play."

Then tails wag and faces grin,
They bounce and hop and make a din.
They never say, "No time for you,"
They're always there, to GO and DO.

And if I'm sad, they're by my side.
And if I'm mad, they circle wide.
And if I laugh, they laugh with me.
They understand, they always see.

So, once again, I say to you,
"Come visit me," but know this too...

My dogs live here, they're here to stay.
You don't like pets?  Be on your way.
They share my home, my food, my space.
This is their home, this is their place.

From time to time, people tell me,
"lighten up, it's just a dog,"
or, "that's a lot of money for just a dog."
They don't understand the distance traveled,
the time spent, or the costs involved for
"just a dog."
Some of my proudest moments have come about with
"just a dog."
Many hours have passed and my only company was
"just a dog,"
but I did not once feel slighted.
brought about by
"just a dog,"
and in those days of darkness,
the gentle touch of "just a dog"
gave me comfort and reason to overcome the day.
If you, too, think it's "just a dog,"
then you will probably understand phases
like "just a friend," "just a sunrise," or
"just a promise."
"Just a dog" brings into my life the very essence
of friendship, trust, and pure unbridled joy.
"Just a dog" brings out the compassion and
patience that make me a better person.
Because of "just a dog" I will rise early,
take long walks and look longingly to the future.
So for me and folks like me, it's not "just a dog"
but an embodiment of all the hopes and dreams
of the future, the fond memories of the past,
and the pure joy of the moment.
"Just a dog" brings out what's good in me and
diverts my thoughts away from myself and the
worries of the day.
I hope that someday they can understand that
it's not "just a dog"
but the thing that gives me humanity and keeps
me from being "just a woman."
So the next time you hear the phrase "just a dog."
just smile, because they "just don't understand."
